Kitchen Quick Tips: Warm up to frozen meals

(NC)—With Canadians spending more time commuting and in the office, frozen entrées are growing in appeal as convenient and tasty meal solutions. No longer the bland TV dinners of years past, frozen entrées can be a great-tasting, nutritious and satisfying option for families and singles alike.

But with such a wide variety of meals available in your frozen food aisle, how do you know what to look for? Here are some tips to help you select your next frozen entrée:

• Choose foods you enjoy eating. If you don't crave it, you won't want to eat it.

• Pick a variety of flavours. To spice up meal time, buy a selection of recipes you can look forward to enjoying. From Meat Lasagna to Barbeque Chicken, your favourite mouth-watering entrées are only minutes away.

• Look for the Health Check symbol. You don't have to sacrifice taste when looking for more nutritious entreés. For example, seven Stouffer's recipes bear the Heart and Stroke Foundation's Health Check symbol and offer healthy, delicious, and satisfying recipes.

• Select appropriate portion sizes. Research shows that people tend to finish the amount of food served to them, regardless of serving size. Because our individual energy needs vary, choose a suitable serving size to maintain a healthy diet for you.

Examples and information about frozen entreés bearing the Health Check logo can be found online at www.nestle.ca.
