(NC)—Waking up to an alarm can be trying at the best of times, but dark winter mornings and frigid temperatures can make those early wake ups even more of a struggle. To avoid the winter morning blues it is important to choose a healthy, protein-rich breakfast that will provide you with a boost of energy. What better way to brighten your morning than with a tropical berry smoothie reminiscent of sunny beach vacations? Packed with antioxidants and vital nutrients, this tropical strawberry smoothie takes mere minutes to prepare and is the perfect breakfast for those on the go.

Tropical Strawberry Smoothie

1 cup California strawberries, stemmed

2 medium bananas, peeled and cut into pieces

3 cups ice cubes, divided

1/2 cup nonfat strawberry or plain yogurt

1/2 cup orange juice

2 tablespoons honey

Directions

Place all ingredients except 1 1/2 cups of the ice cubes in blender; blend on high speed until smooth, scraping down ingredients in blender occasionally. Add remaining ice; continue to blend until smooth. Serve in tall glasses, dividing equally. Makes two servings.
