Planning for Family Camping Trips

- Having the proper equipment is essential. Make a checklist of items that you'd like to bring. While tents, sleeping bags, camping chairs, coolers and stoves are top-of-mind for most campers, don't forget things like a first aid kit, insect repellant, suntan lotion, day packs, water bottles and camping dishes.

- Don't forget to pack snacks for the kids for the road trip. Coolers that plug into the car outlet are great for keeping drinks cold and refreshing. Games, books and DVD players are handy for keeping kids entertained until you arrive at your destination.

- Man's best friend doesn't have to be left behind. Choosing a tent that not only sleeps a family of ten, but also includes a self-contained doggie den, makes camping fun for you and your pet.
