Bring the Islands to You This Summer

(ARA) If you could be anywhere in the world right now, where would you be? One of the most popular answers to that question is on vacation in the islands, basking in the sun, bobbing in the waves and enjoying warm tropical breezes; but even people who live close to the shore can't get out there every day. So they're doing the next best thing -- transforming their master bathroom into a place where they can get away from it all.

According to the National Kitchen and Bath Association, bathroom remodels were the most popular home improvement project last year -- more than 8 million bathrooms were remodeled in 2004. About 50 percent of the projects involved simply repainting the walls and bringing in decorative accents; but more people than you'd think spent big bucks on their remodels. Nearly 320,000 households spent $11,000 or more on upgrades.

Scott Tennant of Acryline USA, a New Jersey company that specializes in massaging bath systems, says the most popular trend on the pricier side right now is expanding the size of the room by taking over an adjoining closet, bathroom or bedroom. "When the majority of homes in America were built, bathrooms weren't given the kind of emphasis they have today. They were tiny rooms with just the bare necessities. Today they are people's private sanctuaries, really the only place left in the house where they can go to just relax and get away from it all, and that's worth splurging on," he says.

These days, remodeled bathrooms resemble those you'd see at a spa, only on a smaller scale. They have lounge areas where the home owner can exercise, do yoga or simply relax and read the newspaper; radiant floor heating; dimmable lighting; overhead speakers; and massaging showers and baths people can use anytime they feel like it.

Tennant's company just introduced a new line of baths at the Kitchen and Bath Industry Show in Las Vegas, Nevada, that are perfect for the home spa. The new Acryzen Series baths are simple in design and focus on comfort. They focus on comfort by offering two anatomically comfortable back rests with lower lumbar support, arm rests along both sides and flat bottoms. They are available with several different massage options -- as soaking baths or with a choice of three different warm air hydro-massage systems offered by Acryline.

"You can set the massage system for a light tactical massage that stimulates the nervous system or a highly vigorous tissue massage that will really get the blood flowing," says Tennant. "There's a lot of flexibility." Not only in the massage, but the baths' versatility as well. They can be set up anywhere in the floor space where there's an area that's at least 6 feet long and 4 feet wide. Depending on the room's configuration, you can either create an island oasis where you can sit back and dream about a Hawaiian vacation, or tuck the bath back in a corner of the room near a window and enjoy the natural light coming in.

No matter what configuration you choose, make the experience even more pleasurable by adding your favorite herbal bath elixir, throwing some music in the CD player, and letting the massaging waves take you away from it all.
