Exercising Your Pelvic Muscles After Pregnancy

by: Pauline Go

Sometime because of pregnancy and childbirth, you pelvic muscles can get weak. However, you can take certain measures to make those muscles strong again.

Pelvic muscles are like any other muscles and exercising the pelvic floor muscles can make them stronger. Women who are suffering from incontinence after childbirth can regain control of their bladder by doing pelvic muscle exercises.

Just by doing simple pelvic muscle exercises for 5 minutes three times a day can make a huge difference in your life. Pelvic muscles are made up of several layers of muscles that stretch between your legs and the muscles are attached to the front, back and side of the pelvis. However, there are two muscles that do the maximum work for you and these muscles help prevent the leaking of urine and stool. The biggest of these two muscles is stretched like a hammock and the other is shaped like a triangle and these two muscles have to tightened in order to strength your pelvic muscles.

The best to strengthen the pelvic muscles is by trying to stop the flow of urine when you are using the toilet. If you manage to do it then you are contracting the correct muscle. Another exercise that you can do to strengthen your pelvic muscles is imagine that you are trying to stop passing gas. If you get a sense of pulling then you are using the correct muscles for your pelvis muscles. Another exercise that doctors recommend for strengthening pelvic muscles is lying down and inserting a finger in your vagina. Squeeze the inserted finger as if you are trying to stop the flow of urine from coming out, and if you feel a tightness around your finger, you are using the correct muscles in this exercise.
