Grandparent's Day is September 8. Celebrate with
these fun and thoughtful ideas!
* Painting Pictures. First, find a favorite family photo
that evokes fond memories. Recreate the picture scene by
drawing or painting it on a sheet of paper. When you're
finished, display the original photo and your rendition in
matching frames and present to your grandparents.
* Letter Writing. Write a letter to your grandparents,
telling them all of the things you love and appreciate
about them. Tell them about things you have learned from
them, and special memories that you have. Decorate the
letter with a border of small pictures and designs in the
margins.
* Memory Box. Create a special keepsake by having each
member of the family write a down a special story or memory
about your grandparents on index cards. Store the cards in
a decorated recipe box; making it easy to add more stories.
* Family Newsletter. Write monthly updates on your family's
activities and achievements, and send them to your
grandparents. Present the inaugural edition on
Grandparent's Day, then send an updated edition each month!
* Listen and Talk. Spend the day with your grandparents and
do nothing but listen and talk. Listen to their stories
about what their childhood years were like; the friends
they have; what it was like to have children, then
grandchildren. Tell them about your best friend; places you
want to visit; awards you've won; silly jokes you've heard.
This is a great way to get to know each other better.
