Stress During Pregnancy And It's Effects

by: Linda Hubble

Stress during pregnancy is an unnatural side-effect of modern day society. Stress, an emotion that puts a demand for action on your system, is designed in nature as a fight or flight response. For example, you see a tiger, you become stressed, and you either fight or you run. The emotion of stress is not meant to be experienced for an extended period of time, especially during pregnancy. This article will detail the background and effects of stress during pregnancy.

Clinical Studies on Stress During Pregnancy

The unfortunate reality is that there are no conclusive studies about stress during pregnancy and a baby's development. While there are many conjectures on stress's effects, constructing an actual test to verify those theories are proving to be a challenge to even our most talented researches.

To conduct such a test, expectant mothers would have be separated into two groups: Stressed mothers and unstressed mothers. Furthermore, a control group of average mothers would have to be established. Needless to say, establishing these guidelines is a difficult and subjective task.

That said, reputable physicians have hypothesized that mild mental or tempermental issues later in life, such as ADD or Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, may be tied to stress during pregnancy of the child's mother.

"Will Stress Affect My Baby?"

What does this information mean for you? Well - Needless to say, even though stress during pregnancy hasn't been proving to be bad for your baby, common sense dictates that it won't be good.

Staying relaxed and giving your baby the best environment for him/her to develop in is a key responsibility of any expecting mother. Therefore, taking steps to reduce stress is highly recommended.
